Elements of Pre-Production

Elements of Pre-production

Finance
Finance is one of the most important elements in the process of moving images. As it determines the scale of the production.  I will be working on a fixed budget that will come from different sources and funding. I would have to put a separate budget on each component that contributes to the production, such as the setting, cast, props, workers on and of set, and most importantly the equipment used (camera, lighting, sound system est.)

Our main funding body would be my educational institution, which will provide me and my group with the technical resources. Me and my group however will have to provide everything else for example cast, setting, and props (costume, make-up est.)

Time scale
I would have to consider time as an key element as I don’t have much of it, due to the short time I have between now and my deadline date to produce the music video.

Not only is my time fixed for the whole production process in a large scale but also for how long it would take for each task, for example: shooting. As renting out equipment and materials would have to be used effectively in a short period, otherwise it would be very costly.

In order for me to be ahead of everything I would have to organise my time well. Doing beforehand research on each task and how much time it would potentially consume. I would have to set some mini deadline for the completion of each task.

Also In order to complete tasks in time we as a group would have to divide tasks between us and allocate different jobs/roles to each one of us.

Personnel
The personnel’s are what bring the whole production together, after each been given an allocate role/job, and every feature would need a person with the right skills in order to bring the music video to a professional standard, personnel’s are (both workers and cast) need to work together as a body in order to meet the requirements of the protectors, directors and the music artist.

Workers are chosen by profession and skills, however cast (models and actors in the video) would have to be chosen by how compatible they are with the treatment, storyboard and main theme of the song. The target audience would have to be consisted while choosing the cast.

Facilities
The outcome of the video will be determined by the faculties used, however facilities are not only about the equipment used such as lights, cameras, sound systems, and the technical resources, but also how accessible are the people working on set to facilities such as toilets, food and shelters (cabins for example), as filming may take hours. Therefore cast and workers must be insured in working in a safe, comfortable location.

Material
Any sort of prop or material that will be used in the music video will have to be picked carefully, putting into consideration the theme of the song, song lyrics , cast in the video and most importantly target audience .So if they  all complement each other, the music video would be effective and successful .
Each prop has to have a reason in appearing in the video ,and to contribute to the mood and realism of the atmosphere.

Locations
Location would be the hardest element, not only on were it is and how to get their. But also the permission regulations you would have to go through before filming there. Location and materials together balance each other to create a sense of realism to the video. It sets the scene and clarifies the treatment to the audience. Many locations would have to be visited before hand to measure space, height and how they would be used. Many music videos have more then one locations, were some are for the general public, and were people might become an obstacle throughout the filming. This would have to be consisted and permission would have to be taken from the local council

Codes of Practice and Regulation
-Copy right laws and regulation: - were work that belongs to other people such as soundtracks would need copyright permission from the owners before featuring them in the video.

-Health and safety regulations: - the location were most of the of the personnel’s including cast and everyone working in the production, would need to be checked. As they have the right to be In safe locations at all times therefore locations have to be checked before hand. Even after they have and all the material and equipment are set up, the place has to be hazard free.
